What Session handover does
You are running out of context, or you want to continue tomorrow in a fresh chat. This produces a structured brief, or a condensed transcript, inside one fenced block so a single copy button takes everything.
What you give it
The conversation you are already in. Nothing to paste.
What you get back
- Handover mode: goal, what is done, what is in progress, rules to keep, and next steps
- Transcript mode: a condensed, step-by-step record in order
- Everything inside one four-backtick fence, so inner code blocks do not break the copy
Use cases
Running out of context mid-task
Hand the work to a new chat without losing the decisions, the file names and the standing rules.
Writing the ticket after the work
Paste the handover straight into a task tracker as the record of what was done and what is left.
Passing work to someone else
The next reader gets exact slugs, commands, versions and error messages, not a vague summary.
How to use Session handover
Install the productivity toolkit
/plugin install productivity-toolkit@claude-skills
Ask for a handover
"Handover", "recap this chat", "give me something to paste", or run /session-handover.
Pick a mode, or let it pick
Handover is the default. Say "transcript" for a full record, or "both" to get the brief followed by the transcript.
Copy the block
Paste it as the first message of the new chat and carry on.
Benefits
Nothing invented
It only uses what is in the session. Anything unclear or unconfirmed is written as "Not confirmed" rather than smoothed over.
"Done" means done
An item is only marked done if it was actually finished and confirmed in the chat. Everything else is in progress or not started.
Secrets stripped
Passwords, API keys, tokens and login links are removed and marked, with a note on where the real value lives.
One block, one copy
The whole deliverable sits inside one fence so the copy button takes all of it, with at most one line of commentary either side.
Install session-handover
This skill ships in the productivity-toolkit plugin. Add the marketplace once, then install the plugin in Claude Code.
/plugin marketplace add rodneylungayan/claude-skills
/plugin install productivity-toolkit@claude-skillsAfter that the skill loads on its own whenever your request matches it. You can also invoke it by name with /session-handover.
Questions about session-handover
- Can it summarise a document or a web page?
- No, and that is deliberate. It only handles the current AI session. Summarising a document is a different job.
